Thomas Halterman - General Manager
Tom Halterman is a 20-year hospitality veteran responsible for overseeing the operations at The Waynesville Inn Golf Resort & Spa. He comes to us from resorts such as Wyndham Palms Resort & Country Club in Orlando, FL, Tempus Resorts International, LTD, Hyatt Hotel Corporation, Hilton International and Grenelefe Golf & Tennis Resort. Tom began his career in the industry as a line level employee in the kitchen, working his way from department to department gaining knowledge and experience. He was promoted to a management level position, subsequent promotions were Controller, Executive Corporate Controller, Director of Resort Operations and General Manager.
Tom has brought The Waynesville Inn a fresh look at operations. He has implemented many financial tracking documents, counseled the management team in budget building and holds directors responsible for their budget. He has brought about some minor re-structuring of the management team resulting in the addition of Director of F&B, Director of Engineering & Director of Rooms. This additional leadership has allowed the property to move forward in bettering its standards and level of service.
Mr. Halterman is a member of the Mid-Florida Accountants Association, CFHLA Time Share Council, holds a CAM license under the Department of Business Regulation, State of Florida. He also encourages the educational development of the Directors and Management staff at The Waynesville Inn.
Chris Corbin – Director of Rooms
Chris Corbin joined The Waynesville Inn in 2000. He began his career as a bellman,working after school and throughout his summers. After graduating with a BA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Mr. Corbin returned in 2006 and has been steadily promoted through the ranks, from Guest Services Clerk to Operations Manager. In 2009, Mr. Corbin was promoted to Director of Rooms where he oversees the budget and operations in Housekeeping, Reservations and Guest Services.
As Operations Manager, Mr. Corbin was integral in setting up and maintaining the resort’s new property management system, installing a wireless internet infrastructure, establishing a Manager-On-Duty program and creating daily Flash Reports that are distributed to the management team and the accounting department.
Mr. Corbin uses his love for golf to support local charities by playing in tournaments for organizations like Rotary International, Haywood Regional Medical Center and Western Carolina University.
Never satisfied, Mr. Corbin continues his education through the American Hotel and Lodging Association. He is currently completing his certificate in Rooms Division management.
Travis Smith - Director of Golf
As a 15 year veteran of the golf industry, Travis Smith after studies in the Criminal Justice field from Western Carolina University started his career as an assistant golf professional here at The Waynesville Inn Golf Resort & Spa. After getting his guidance from fellow Golf Professional Duane Page, Mr. Smith then moved his career to Asheville, NC to be the assistant golf professional at the private Biltmore Forest Country Club. While working for both country clubs, Mr. Smith learned what it takes to give that 100% customer service to the public, hotel guest and private member. After his time with Biltmore Forest Country Club Mr. Smith then was introduced as the Director of Golf for The Waynesville Inn Golf Resort & Spa in 2005.
As Director of Golf of The Waynesville Inn Golf Resort & Spa, Travis Smith oversees the 27hole Donald Ross designed golf course (totaling over 35,000 rounds annually), merchandising for golf shop, golf instructions, 110 golf cart fleet, operating and capital budgets, staffing and the WCU Open held every September, which is one of the largest collegiate women’s golf tournaments in the country.
Mr. Smith hosts a variety of golf association tournaments on an annual basis, from the Georgia Seniors, SGA Seniors, Mississippi Seniors, Volunteer Seniors and the local 4-Ball Three Club Tournament. Mr. Smith is also heavily involved in charity golf events, including the Haywood Hospital Gala, Haywood Christian Ministries and the Rotary golf tournament.
Judy Viebrock – Controller
Judy is a native of a small rural community in Maryland. She began working in the food industry at a young age in a family owned business. She earned an associate degree in marketing at a business school in Pennsylvania. She later moved to Florida for several years where she met her husband to be. After vacationing in Waynesville, they decided to move to the area in 1993.
Judy has approximately 10 years of retail/wholesale sales experience combined with 15 years of supervision and management. Her experience in sales and management varies from upscale department stores to boutique and gift shops. She also owned and operated a fine linen and gift shop in downtown Waynesville and is familiar with the challenges of running a business in a seasonal tourist area. Judy’s Human Resource experience was gained during her Postal Service career.
Judy has worked at The Waynesville Inn as the Controller and Human Resource Director since January 2007. She has completed her studies in Hospitality Industry Managerial Accounting from the American Hotel and Lodging Association. Judy’s job responsibilities range from balancing the checkbook to tracking invoices to following personnel. The skills and background give her the ability to successfully wear multiple “hats” on this property.
Ken Smith - Director of Engineering
Ken Smith joined The Waynesville Inn in 2009. In high school as a member of the FFA he placed 5th overall in the state of South Carolina for nursery landscape design and 1st in general knowledge. Ken began his career at a boutique hotel in Charlotte, NC. At The Morgan hotel he worked his way to Assistant Chief Engineer. He then went on to work for the Charlotte Marriot Executive Park hotel, a Sage Hospitality hotel. Ken began his career with Sage as a Preventive Maintenance Technician.
While with Sage Hospitality, Ken attended Central Piedmont Community College. He graduated with a degree in Applied Science and an overall GPA of 3.75. Ken has had the experience of opening two luxury hotels for Sage Hospitality. The Historic Blackstone Hotel in Chicago, IL and the Nines in Portland, OR.
At The Waynesville Inn, Ken has begun to revamp the equipment preventative maintenance, and our room maintenance programs. Ken has also worked to upgrade our safety programs. He is excited by the challenges and bright future of The Waynesville Inn. Ken looks to continue his education as a certified Chief engineer with the American Hotel and Lodging Association.
